Plain & Fancy:  Late Summer Tour 13th Sept to 23rd Sept 2009

The experience starts here!

We start with the fancy part of the tour first, staying in the centre of Historic Philadelphia for 3 days, tours of Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, historic houses, trolley ride around Philadelphia getting off at points of interest. For the art lovers in the group, we go to the museum of art, for the energetic ones a run up the steps featured in the film “Rocky.”  Shopping at the famous “Prince of Prussia” shopping mall. Leave Philadelphia for Lancaster, stopping at Winterthur museum, to see their quilt collection.

Lancaster, we visit the historic places of interest in Lancaster, Farmers market Wheatland, Quilt museums, the best fabric shops and much more. We also learn the Amish way of life, visit the ladies in their quilt shops, tour the farmlands, finish the tour  with dinner with an Amish family in their own home – An exclusive for JJN.

Day 1: Fly from London to Philadelphia. Transfer to hotel in Philadelphia. Dinner.
 
Day 2: Tour of historic Philadelphia, including Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House and restored area of Society Hill. Lunch. Then boat ride on the Delaware River taking in the Historic waterfront.
 
Day 3: Visit to Philadelphia Museum of Art - an excellent collection in a beautiful building. You can also run up the steps featured in the film ‘Rocky‘!     In the afternoon shop till you drop at the famous and enormous ‘King of Prussia Shopping Mall’
 
Day 4: Leave Philadelphia for Lancaster. En route stop at Winterthur Museum of American Furniture, Ceramics and Textiles - enjoy a private visit to the Quilt and Textile collection. Arrive in the evening at the hotel in Lancaster.
 
Day 5: Visit Intercourse and the Amish Quilt Museum. See the audio visual “Amish Experience”. Visit a number of fabric shops.
 
Day 6: Downtown Lancaster one of the oldest inland cities in America. Then onto the town of Lititz for lunch and then on to Sauders one of the largest fabric shops.
 
Day 7: Free Day.
 
Day 8: Brunch at the Eden Courtyard, experience the American way of eating!! Afternoon visit to Landis Valley Farm Museum.
 
Day 9: Visit Rockford Plantation 1794 Georgian style brick mansion. In the afternoon a guided tour of the Amish Farmlands ending with dinner with an Amish family.
 
Day 10:
Last minute shopping- last chance for the quilt and fabric shops. Lapps Quilt shop, Double Heart Gallery, Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse. Then on to the airport for our evening flight to London.

Cost includes: Flight, Transport, Hotel in Philadelphia and Lancaster, Breakfast, Dinners in Lancaster, admissions to museums, houses, days pass for the trolley, taxes and gratuities etc.

Not included are lunches and dinner the 3 nights in Philadelphia. Travel insurance.
